The Hoh Rain Forest in Washington State is, without a doubt, the most beautiful place I've ever witnessed in the United States. Nestled within the Pacific Northwest, its name, "Hoh", resonates with the whispers of Native American histories, whether from the Quileute word "Ohalet", meaning "fast moving water", the Quinault word "Qu" suggesting a "boundary", or even tales of a "man with quarreling wives". Its true naming origin may remain shrouded in mystery, but its beauty is unequivocal. Each year, a mesmerizing 140 inches of rain graces this forest, painting a canvas of vibrant greens with mosses, ferns, and a mix of both coniferous and deciduous trees. This temperate rainforest, one of the last pristine examples in the U.S., lies a short drive from Port Angeles, beckoning travelers with its timeless allure.
