Little Wild Horse Canyon, Utah

Little Wild Horse Canyon in south-central Utah is a marvel, weaving a tale of nature's artistry with its intricate slot canyons and sculpted rock walls. Located near Goblin Valley, it offers a hiking experience that feels both intimate and grand, as you traverse its "narrows" - sections so slender that you often find yourself shimmying through sideways. On our adventure, we took our two dogs along, and while the journey was memorable, lifting them over certain areas was a challenge. I'd advise against this trail if you have larger dogs that can't easily be lifted. While many choose to venture only a part of the way into Little Wild Horse and return, the more adventurous souls, like us, opt for the 8-mile loop that encompasses both Little Wild Horse and Bell Canyon. Although the canyon's narrow embrace ensures shade for most of the day, the importance of carrying water, especially in the hot summer months, cannot be stressed enough. August brings its own spectacle - morning skies so clear they seem painted on, giving way to afternoon clouds and the potential dance of thunderstorms. If you do plan a visit, always be wary of rain forecasts; the threat of flash floods in such terrains is real. The best times to explore are spring and fall, where nature's temperament is milder, making your hike an unforgettable experience.
